Where the truck stands: parking a move in the Inner West

Know your street's rules before moving day

Much of Marrickville and the surrounding suburbs sits inside resident permit parking areas managed by Inner West Council's permit scheme. Permit zones still allow short-stay parking for unmarked vehicles, but the signposted limit (often two hours) matters for a truck that plans to stand all morning. Read the sign on your own kerb the week before, not the morning of.

The four places a truck can stand

• Directly out front, signed as unrestricted. The best case, common on the quieter residential streets. We still plan for the space being taken and hold it where we can.
• A loading zone. Trucks doing genuine pick-up and set-down work may use loading zones within the signed limits; the rules live with the general road rules published by the NSW Government's roads, safety and rules pages. Common near the strips and the apartment blocks.
• A driveway or hardstand, with permission. A neighbour's driveway or a building's dock beats any kerb. Apartments and warehouse conversions often have a dock with its own booking rules; we sort that with the building before the day.
• Around the corner. When the street itself cannot host the truck, the carry gets longer instead. That is honest hours, and we will say so in the estimate rather than let it surprise you.

What we do, so you do not have to

When you book with us, the parking plan is part of the job: we ask what your kerb is signed as, check the access at both ends, and arrive with a plan A and a plan B. If your building needs a dock booking or your street genuinely has no option, we tell you before moving day what that means for the hours.

One thing we do not do

We do not park illegally and quietly add the fine to your bill. A truck on a clearway or blocking a driveway can be fined and towed mid-load, and no schedule survives that. The legal spot, even when it is further, is always the cheaper spot.
